Alley, located in a concrete courtyard adjacent to the Connecticut Forest and Park Association's headquarters, activates an underutilized site, reimagining it as an outdoor classroom and assembly space.
The studio designed and installed a collection of three interventions in the existing space. The first was a large trellis over the back of the courtyard to create a semi-enclosed outdoor "room" with greenery growing overhead. The second was a large white signboard and series of custom concrete planters to draw attention the mission of CFPA. The third was a set of long benches that cut back and forth across the space, dividing it into 3 separate zones, an outdoor vestibule for the building itself, a meeting area for tours and hikes departing from the site, and the area below the trellis for learning, relaxing, and overflow of the CFPA's interior programs housed in the adjacent building.
